Sealing

New permanent molars may have grooves and pits on their chewing surfaces. These irregularities are vulnerable because toothbrush bristles have difficulty reaching these areas, making them difficult to brush clean. To prevent tooth decay, a procedure called 'sealing' can be used. During this treatment, a thin, usually white or transparent layer of synthetic resin is applied to the grooves of the molars, thus closing them off against bacteria. This reduces the chance of cavities developing. This treatment is fully reimbursed by basic insurance for children up to the age of 18!
